The Story

Anyway… a man walks into a pub in Glasgow and asks the bartender (female) for a beer. A pretty normal thing to do or so you might think. The bartender (female) spots that this is a man with something on his mind so she gives thought to asking what concerns him. Fortunately that wild look in his eye dissuades her. A lucky escape because that man suddenly declared "What the world needs now is another record company!” The man finished his beer and left. Another man with a plan…

And that is how Metropolicana Records began.

So you want to know where the name for the label came from? Not really? Well, I'll tell you anyway. Bet you think it is the name of a racehorse. Or a lapdancer. If only it were. The more romanticised version of the truth does allege that the man with the plan was thinking about Vicky (or maybe it was Vikki) aka the lapdancer with the stage name of Metropolicana. Truth be told, it's the title of a great song by a guy called Mat D who is from Iowa which is the coolest place on the planet now and in the 23rd century as Captain Kirk was born there. So now you know.

As for the urge to release music on vinyl? Just put that down to a mid-life crisis.
